INNOVATION CAMP

2 september - 6 september 2009, Wednesday - Saturday 10:00 - 19:00, Sunday 10:00-13:00

Everyone is talking about innovation but what is it really? Innovation Camp is a reality show at Copenhagen’s town hall square in which passers-by can learn about innovation. In cooperation with companies, design students will show how to work with a design brief, develop ideas, use materials and build small prototypes.

Innovation camp takes place between 2nd and 6th September. 15 design students from the Danish design schools work together in teams and compete to achieve:

the best idea
the best innovation concept
the best piece of furniture

Innovation Camp is structued by:

Furniture companies formulate a design brief for the students
A concentrated innovation workshop over four days during which the students work in teams and produce concepts, drawings and make mock ups or simple prototypes
Passers-by can follow the process each day at the Town Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) for insight into how to develop new ideas and designs.

The students’ work will be judged by a panel of experts and a prize giving will take place on Saturday 5th September at 14.00.

Innovation Camp is arranged by af Udviklingscenter for Møbler og Træ (Development Centre for Furniture and Wood) which, for a number of years have developed ’innovation cups’—each time with projects that result from clients and companies needs for new design and product development. An innovation cup normally takes place in a concentrated period of about three weeks. In this way, corporate between clients, companies, educational institutions is achieved, along with national and international understanding of the Danish furniture industry’s innovation.
